CRV, Inc. Spam Management Bulletin

CRV has purchased and implemented a new Spam Firewall solution for the benefit of our customers. The continuing problem with Spam was not only a drain on our email servers, but a waste of our customers internet access bandwidth. We are excited about this new service and hope you enjoy the benefits of the industries best answer to managing email.

Starting March 31, 2004 our customers began receiving an email notification that they have "quarantined" email. The following is some preliminary information regarding the Spam filtering product.

When you receive a  message notifying  you that you have been given an account on our Barracuda Spam Firewall, that means:

  • You received a message with a score greater than 2.6
  • The spam firewall automatically activated your personal account
  • The spam firewall sent a random password to your email address with directions on how to view the message

The message CRV, Inc. users started receiving today looks something like this:

Welcome to the CRV Spam Firewall. This message contains the information you will need to access your Spam Quarantine and Preferences.

Your account has been set to the following username and password:

Username: your email address

Password: generated_password

You may login using the following http://barracuda.crvinc.net:8000

Please be sure to change your password.

Now, here is an important note. The spam firewall operates on http port 8000, so if you work someplace that has a firewall blocking traffic on http port8000, you may not be able to access our box from behind your firewall.

You can set up your preferences BEFORE you receive a quarantined message.

Instructions to access your quarantined email and access your preferences for handling spam:

  • 1. Go to: http://barracuda.crvinc.net:8000/
  • 2. Put in your email address
  • 3. Leave password box blank
  • 4. Don't click Login (see picture below) but move all the way down to the bottom to "Create Password"
  • 5. Click button at bottom to create a password, which then will be e-mailed to you.
  • 6. Check your email to receive your password
  • 7. Return to http://barracuda.crvinc.net:8000/ with your username and your newly created password
  • 8. Visit the various buttons to set up your own SPAM settings.
